25. Punch Drunk Love v 18. This is Spinal Tap

This deserves more of an explanation than I have time to give, but suffice it to say: PTA and Christopher Guest both deserve massive props for these films. I think "This is Spinal Tap" is more historically significant than "Punch Drunk Love," but I'm picking PDL simply because I enjoyed it more. Even though the Tap was the ground-breaking film, I think Best in Show and Guffman are both better realizations of the form.

I'm sorry, Tap. I should have freed you to run. Run like a little boy through a field.

Comments:
How are Show and Guffman better realizations of the form when Tap is 57 billion times funnier?

Still, props for being bold. And I'm definitely with you on the Delicatessen pick.

karl, i totally agree. spinal tap is one of those great movies that is funny to quote afterwards, but isn't all that funny while watching it.

and i thinks i must see this delicatessen.

i finally watched "city of god" yesterday. sooooo damn great.

Why did it take me so long to watch City of God? I thought it was going to be slow and depressing. Nuh uh.

Phew, I thought I was going to get lynched on the Tap thing, so it's good to get some support. "MP & the Holy Grail" maybe similar? I mean, if movies were measured by the number of times they were quoted, it would be the best of all time. And it certainly is a Significant Movie, for influence if nothing else. But not really that enjoyable while watching, unless drunk, silly, and watching for the 3rd time quoting along with it?
